Positioning of subject-rule of third

These are one of the most useful techniques within taking images/shots for photography for the music magazine. The rule of thirds divide your image using two horizontal and vertical lines to show where the points meet. It shows the best composition of where is the image/photo is placed. The rule of thirds can be used in the same subject but give different effect depending on what type of shot it is. Also, in landscape the horizontal lines are very common.Another part of the rule of third is that it could provide an "anchor" which is a natural focus for the point of the scene that the photo is taken. Even nature photography has a clear focus point in the image. Most of the focus of the image is off centre. Rule of third is usually a starting point within any composition.

The photography room/studio for taking shots for music magazine

The photography studio/room. The light has a dial on them to turn/reduce the brightness. One of the lights are seen as the main light, and if you reduce the brightness on that one and not on the other light it will create/show a shadow effect. The n icon camera has to be taken the image(the image should not be taken at the back-so we should make sure that the images are not taken at the back of the set as this would create a grey effect and not show good quality of the image. There is the setup of 3d lighting, by having three lights(the main light, the supporting light and the light at the back-which is a drop light which can create an emphasis of shadow and contrasting effect to the images/shots. There would be two set ups(one of them which would be white and the other one would be black. For example, one of the lights(the main light) could be beamed while the other light is being lit up which will create a reflector between the images. For the images/shots of which i would be taking for the front cover it would be taken portrait instead of landscape as i want the image to be more of a close up for the music magazine.

Practice using the programme Adobe illustrator to create a masthead

The programme was used to practice and help create and design the masthead of the music magazine by using different tools and effects such as drop shadow, zooming in to select on one letter to make it look different such as pulling the anchor at the corner of the letter to either make it longer or shorter.

Magazine Proposal

Magazine proposal

The chosen musical genre of this magazine is rock. Which is aimed at teenagers both male and female aged from 15-21 who are into rock and like to do hobbies such as drawing, listening music and shares interest into being creative and open with themselves. There social class would be around in the middle class. The colour scheme that would be featured in the magazine would be red, black and white. These colours would be used to emphasise how the readers/target audience would be attracted to the magazine as it would stand out and me more appealing as these colours would indicate how they would be more likely to read it and these colours have been also mainly used in the rock magazines such as rock sound and kerrang. The lettering of the magazine would be preferably quite big as the teenagers who would be reading this magazine would most likely be reading a magazine that has a bigger size font than a smaller size. As, this would more appealing towards them because it would stand out more. The mast head would be including the title of the name of the magazine, and would also contain on the front cover what other rock artists that would be mentioned within the magazine which would appeal towards the target audience. The preferable design feature which would be used to design the music magazine is adobe InDesign. The type of artists I would include would be bring me the horizon, fall out boy, neck deep, we came as romans and etc. The regular items that would be featured in the magazine is some posters, features of some of the next performances (gigs, tours and etc.) one of the most important things which makes my magazine different from others is that I would contain few samples/previews of upcoming bands singles, Eps or albums also the top rock charts and which singles would be future hits on the rock charts. The magazine would be doing regular issues each month. The rock magazines mainly feature male artists on the front cover. Within this magazine is going to also feature female artists as well regularly. In order to appeal to both the male and female. The title of the magazine that i was thinking of is flava rock or inclusive rock. This would be in a quite informal style of writing as it will be able to relate to my readers, there would be included interviews, and loads of articles about the bands with information as to whether they are going to be touring with other bands that are similar within the category of the rock genre. The main reason why i chose to use red, black and white as the colours i am using for the magazine is because these colours show a sign of aggression, violence and danger which is closely linked to the rock magazines connotations. So, they would appeal to the audience. Also, all these colours are contrasting to each other, so it would stand out. The content page which also include the same colours as it would be used to create a house style, so that it would be recognisable to the readers. Even the double page spread is going to contain the same colours to create a regular house style and appeal to the audience. The images of the magazine would be medium shot images so that it would look more appealing and professional towards the reader.

How the case studies helped

The case studies were helpful as it showed what genre i would be doing for the music magazine and who the target audience is/aimed at. Which will indicate to us what type of colour scheme, font, captions and images to use on the front page of the magazine. In order to grasp the readers attention.
